In Her Words: Identify
The truth: I stay suppressed
But live beyond work, that hour,
Complaints.
We should be able to reach
The superior directly. We should
Be able to start
Conversations, become leaders
In associations— create new policies,
New laws, take care
Of our own.
Take care— especially at night,
5am and the tracks secluded—
No one works like us. 5am, and I clock in
To play. I pray.
Will something bad happen? Will I
Be attacked? Do you want to see
My absence?
I am not defined as a woman. I am
A driver and a leader. I break taboos.
I made a vow to myself to bring truth for
My fellow workers;
To stay. I stay..
Poem composed by Dylan McNulty-Holmes, drawn from the words of remarkable women brought together by this project
