I have got a lot from boda boda riding. It has helped me pay school fees for my child, to look after my well-being and my home.

In Her Words: Drive

To work, to care:
Women define a broader
Silence.           Take being alert:
The most impending factor is
The girls,         so they can search for
New leadership           within themselves.

Driving is easily a job done by women:
Women are written on the road.
The role that I’m in now, I don’t
Always feel safe.        It is a sector
With a lot of     acidity.

So ask about               my hopes.
Security, especially security.              Me,
I get here at 4:40am.  I learn when I feel
Like a good woman,   I am
An actress and a teacher.

I used to be scared. So,
Through their voices   I told you:
The women will           go to work.
That’s what’s happening today,

It’s already happening,                       dear:
All this hour, women are performing
Maneuvers.     We choose
Happiness as our duty.

Poem composed by Dylan McNulty-Holmes, drawn from the words of remarkable women brought together by this project
